What if?
Here are a few ideas I have for our town. This is by no means a comprehensive list. But there’s nothing wrong with asking, “What if?” Maybe some new perspective can spark great things. What ideas do you have? Get in touch on the contact page and share your thoughts. Thanks!
Noise Ordinance
Milton should adopt a noise ordinance. Every American citizen has the right to peaceful enjoyment of property—that means freedom from excessive noise, harassment or intrusion. There are parents in Milton whose infants are regularly startled awake by mufflers designed to simulate gunfire.
Lake Access
The Arrowhead Mountain Lake and dam are unique features of Milton. Now that the new Town garage is built, we have an opportunity to gain public access to the waterfront. This is one of those moments that come along once in a generation. Since 2023, I have been a member of the Ice House Waterfront Committee that was formed to evaluate the future use of the Town of Milton’s Ice House Road property (which includes the old Town garage) and abutting land owned by Green Mountain Power. GMP has has been a partner in these discussions and agreeable to creating a park-like space that will be open to the public. I look forward to moving this concept forward so we can all enjoy this local treasure.
A Fork in the Road
Milton is blessed to have a vibrant artistic community. Public art can be a draw and enhance the aesthetics a community. I'd like to see a significant sculpture be placed in the new hourglass traffic feature across from Hannafords. This could be an art project funded entirely by donations and grants. Imagine something really impressive, like a 30-foot tall fork planted in the middle of the green space — a literal FORK IN THE ROAD! A display might read: Welcome to Milton, the greatest forkin’ town in Vermont!
Miltonaires
Our Selectboard should pass a resolution stating that all citizens of good standing of Milton, Vermont be encouraged to refer to themselves as “Miltonaires”. Henceforth let all citizens bear this moniker who celebrate our rich history, abundant quality of life, and future of endless possibilities.
